On our way from Sanibel to Key Largo we stopped at the Shark River Visitor Center on the Tamiami Trail. This was a neat stop at about the half-way point. There is a guided tram or mike tours you can take but we chose to walk the path for a short distance. This was neat as there were several gators... more

We recently planned a visit to the Everglades, with one day to get a brief introduction. Having read a number of reviews on Trip Advisor, we determined that it as worthwhile to visit Flamingo after visiting some of the notable trails along the way. Unfortunately, as noted in some reviews, the visitor center remains effectively a ghost town. If you... more

Our visit last july to Indian Village after a two hour drive was very disappointing. We couldn't and still can not believe that this "attraction" is highly recommended in tourist guides. To European standards we can hardly call this site attractive. The same goes for the restaurant run by the Miccosukee tribe. Slow service and tasteless food. We expected a... more

Flamingo was a treasure, with a modest motel, cottages, houseboat rentals, and a pleasant restaurant. All good bases for a family vacation seeing the Everglades up close. The fact that THREE YEARS after the hurricane these facilities aren't operational, while the Parks Services rethinks matters, is a scandal. more

We visited yesterday (5/13/2008) at approx 2:00 pm. Ordered grilled cheese and fries. Fries were greasy and room temperature. Grilled cheese was burnt. Waitress convieniently got lost after dropping the food and running off. Scrapped off the burnt coating from the grilled cheese. Finally, after about 20 minutes, waitress reappeared. Complained about the fries. Expected that they would properly cook... more

Here is the information I was looking for prior to our trip. We booked a walk-in site online, but you really pick a site that is available when you get there. The sites are spaced out in the big field. The beach front sites are the best, but farthest to walk to. The walk-in sites are only about 50 yards.... more

We saw so much wildlife on this trail, it was hard to remember that it was really wildlife and not a zoo. We went in early March, and all the birds were out (it was around 3 pm), puffing their feathers and singing or putting on mating behavior. And there were so many alligators! Some were just laying around sleeping,... more

We visited Everglades National Park (via Florida City) in mid February and had a great time. The park was not crowded and very manageable. I think we saw most of the highlights in a full day. This park may be a little bit overlooked with so many other huge tourist sites in Florida but it should not be missed. There... more

We stopped at a nearby airboat stand. Great deal for $10.00 When we finished the ride and tour we walked over to the Miccosukee Restaurant for a late lunch. Native owned and operated. A very nice establishment. Low key, clean, affordable and we did not leave hungry. The fry bread burger was very good. We had pie and coffee for... more

This place is amazing! My boyfriend took me to the Everglades- this was his 3rd trip and my 1st. There was a visitor's center, but we bypassed that and went straight into the park. It cost $10 I think and your pass is good for 6 days. We went on a Saturday afternoon and they had plenty of parking. They... more

I've been there in January 2007. This trails is the best to have a general impression of the Everglades. It's relatively short, well marked and you see most of the Everglades' inhabitants. Lot's of wildlife! It's the perfect place to go if you're short on time. Don't miss the museum and shop right at the park's entrance. And if possible... more

This short trail on an elevated walkway over the Everglades is not to be missed! The area is full of wildlife including, alligators (tons), Anhingas, herons, turtles, fish, snakes and though we didn't see any, the elusive marsh rabbit. It is less than a mile long and full of great picture opportunities. Cost is cheap, especially if you have a... more

We went mid August, and this is a great trail for those who want to do a quick stop of the Everglades (its not too far from the entrance) and takes about 40 minutes. Be sure to look carefully, as it can be easy to miss things! We saw a couple of large crocs - quite scary! We also say... more

My husband and I went on a half day adventure with Captain Bob and it was nice but not what we had expected or hoped for. The beautiful bus picked us up at a local hotel which was convenient for us, and the bus ride was long but did not seem to take us as far as it should have.... more

Even though mid-summer is supposedly "off-season" for seeing alligators and other wildlife in the Everglades, we were pleasantly surprised, seeing three large 'gators, many fish and numerous birds, including Anhingas. All this at mid-day too. We thought due to the intense heat and sunlight we might not see much but one large alligator crossed the path in front of us... more

Your options consist of a tram ride ($) or cycling ($ for rentals) a paved path 7 miles to an observation tower, then 8 miles back along a different track (also paved). Bring more water than you think you'll drink in a day ~ you'll need it. There is no drinking water along the way, save for the restrooms at... more

We had ‘budgeted’ for a couple of days in the southern part of the park (we did not visit the northern part e.g. Everglades City). Of particular note was the (admittedly short) Anhinga Trail at the Royal Palms Visitor Centre which we took led by a Park Warden (who was very good) at 10.30 (we did not need to book... more
