Long bus ride to boats. They are large row boats with outboard motors not speed boats. There is a difference. Rough bouncing ride to wind swept sandbar which is called Paradise Island. We booked our excursion with Thompson, our tour guide was fantastic giving us lots of information about Dominican history and culture, the island was beautiful however small and overcrowded, the scenery on the speed boat trip was really nice (including the mangroves).
