Bias disclaimer: I'm a marine biologist so I think this sort of stuff is really cool. On the other hand, I've also seen a lot more of it than most people, and this was truly spectacular. The trip begins with a surreal kayak through a dense mangrove forest, echoing with the calls of three species of Coqui frogs (males say:... more

Almost everywhere you go, there are one or more "must-do" tours or "must-visit" places. In Puerto Rico, the bioluminescent bay tour is one of them. How to describe it? It is simply an amazing nighttime kayak trip down a river through the woods and into a lagoon where there are billions of microorganisms that light up like fireflies when they... more

I only booked this tour because my husband is a real nature lover. I was reluctant because the idea of been in water at night is scary to me let alone kayaking. I've never kayak before. Well, I took the plunge and took the whole family. 3 kids (6,10,12) 2 adult cousins and us. I thought the kids might get... more

I went kayaking in Laguna Grande as a shore tour from a cruise ship trip. I have been to San Juan many times and I love it and all the old architecture but decided to try something different this time around and am very glad I did! I am an experienced kayaker and was paired with a novice, but she... more

I passed the opportunity to go into the bio bay in Jamaica last year and now I regret it! On 9/2/07 my husband visited Puerto Rico and took the late tour on the bio bay. The kayak trip through the mango trees was a sureal experience, making you feel almost like a part of that world. Reaching the lagoon it... more

This was the most amazing thing my fiance and I have ever seen. The kayak trip, through a very dark channel lined with Mangrove trees, was a challenging teamwork effort. Bring a friend because all of the kayaks are doubles. The kayaks had red and green glowing bracelets on the front and rear of the kayaks. We followed the glowing... more

We just took an excursion from our hotel to the Laguna Grande. It was a fun experience. We had a half moon on an incredibly clear night. As such, we did not get the best view of the bioluminesence. However, it was a fun night. A grueling one hour bus ride out there with a wonderful driver, Hose. I admit... more

The night-time kayak trip from Las Croabas to the lagoon was exciting, but the lagoon itself was indescribably wonderful, with the stars above and the water glowing below. We spent about 40 minutes floating, splashing, and swimming in the water. I am a keen nature lover and have seen many wonderful wildlife spectacles, but this tops them all. Because it... more

If you will do just one thing in Puerto Rico, this should be it. I did not want to go at first because I am afraid of water, but now I am glad that I went. Kayaking was a little difficult, especially for first timer. But it was worth it once you get there. The water really does glow! It... more

This was a Kyak tour to the bioluminescent lagoon. It was the most awesome thing we had ever seen. If you have a chance to do it, by all means, do it. Unfortunatly, you cannot take pictures unless you have super high speed film. We had water cameras with 800 speed film and nothing really showed up. It is describably... more
