All right, everybody knows about the Louvre Museum in Paris, but in this city full of Art and inspiration, there are many smaller museums worth checking out. While the Louvre has an amazing collection of Art, it can be very overwhelming so why spend your vacation at the Louvre struggling to take everything in when you can spend a much calmer afternoon finding great art in any of these extraaordinary museums.

This is probably my favorite museum in Paris. It is located in an old train station that has been converted into a museum. It houses one of the greatest collections of modern art in the world. If you don't have a lot of time to spend in Paris, this is the one museum you can't miss. The building almost outshines any paintings but the undoubted stars of this gallery are the impressionist paintings of Manet, Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh.
Situated right behind Les Invalides, in the 7th arrondisement, this museum is an absolute must for anyone at all interested in sculpture. The gardens are beautiful and you'll find there some of Rodin's major projects. This museum is a wonderful place to spend a calm afternoon admiring the works of perhaps the greatest sculptor ever.
Located in a 8th-century mansion in the Marais quarter, this museum offers the largest single collection of Picasso anywhere. Whether you like Picasso's paintings and sculputes, you will be moved by the coloful talent displayed in his masterpieces. It is amazing to think that all the pieces in the collection came from just one person.
The Musee Jacquemart-André is located in a magnificent mansion in the heart of Paris. It brings together one of the most extensive private collections of masterpieces.
In this museum you can see the works of Rodin's pupil, Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929). You can visit the artist's studio and enjoy the display of his drawings, paintings, and sculpture.
All right, I know I said you should skip the Louvre museum but I know that for a lot of people it is a must see when you are in Paris. If you are going to go, being prepared will make a huge difference and might even allow you to spend a couple of minutes alone with the Mona Lisa before the crowds arrive. Buy your tickets in advance, arrive first thing in the morning (they open at 9:00 am), go to the Louvre mall entrance to avoid the lines at the pyramid, and once you are in head straight for the 13th-15th century Italian paintings section (on the first floor) where the Mona Lisa is (get a map of the museum in advance and you'll know your way). Now relax and enjoy a few seconds alone with her before the crowds get there!
