We came to El Rancho through a timeshare exchange, and were very pleased. Our son and his wife came with us, and we weren't sure how it was going to work out, because a 2 bedroom timeshare can be sort of a crap shoot, especially in Mexico. But the villa was actually just fine - not luxurious, and a little... more

My wife and I decided that we should do something really special for our 25th wedding anniversary, and some friends recommended Mazatlan as a great place to go to the beach. When we started looking on the internet, we came across El Rancho - quiet and peaceful, beautiful beach, not a lot of frills or show. We're not fancy people,... more

The trip was a mixture of pleasure and some concern. First the good news. The villa accommodations where very comfortable and full of Mexican flavor and decor. The grounds where well kept and beautiful, plush with floral, and bordereded by the pacific ocean and a white sand beach. Our villa was pool front and it was a pleasure sitting by... more

I really loved El Rancho! One great thing was our villa. It wasn't slick and fancy, but it was very nice, and it had a really open, airy feel. Especially the master bedroom, which is open on one side with a balcony looking down into the living room area. Also, my kids (teenage son and 7 yr old daughter) each... more

Thank you for your kind comments! We’re very glad to hear that you appreciated our unique accommodations. Our villas were designed by the owner, Otto Schott, an architect, who is very strongly family oriented and wanted a place where his extended family could enjoy good time together while on vacation at the beach. Families like yours (and even bigger families)...

My family and friends have been going to the El Rancho since my mother bought into the time share 18 years ago. She "discoverd" the El Rancho while on a cruise with her friends after my father's death. She was looking for a place to take her family that included 13 school aged grandchildren. If you're looking for a high... more

Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s a real pleasure to take care of faithful guests like you who have become part of the “El Rancho” family over the years. We’re very glad that your mother “discovered” us so many years ago, and we look forward to continuing to provide a place for your family to gather and relax for...

El Rancho Villas are townhouses that are not connected to common walls, so the unit we stayed was very quiet. Since there are only 30 units in the whole resort, there were not a lot of people or noise. The pool was mostly empty and the beach area had plenty of available chairs and lounges to relax and read. The... more

Thanks for the excellent description of our resort! Providing the quiet, relaxing atmosphere that you experienced is exactly what we do best, and our small size and individual villas allow us to do that in a way that bigger resorts cannot. When you combine that with our beautiful beach, it makes El Rancho a very special place. When you need...

This place has lots of little bugs in the kitchen. Also a wide array of other bugs in the Villa's to keep you company at night. The main office booking is almost impossible to deal with, and places you in lessor quality Villa's if you have any type of discount for your stay. There are lots of other hotels in... more

My family stayed at El Rancho by trading in our timeshare through Interval. After reading many rave reviews and viewing the beautiful photos of the villas, we had no concerns that there would be any problems. Once at the hotel, it was apparent that there were obvious problems with the property. First the good points: El Rancho is a small... more

My family and I stayed at El Rancho during my sons wedding. The rest of the family stayed in the zona dorada. The grounds were very well kept, clean, with a familial air. The staff were all very nice. Its great if you are going to spend time on the beach and around the grounds. If you are planning on... more
