Just returned from a 1 nighter - the Love package (Champagne, chocolates and petals). Over all our stay was fab! Upon arrival the receptioniist said that our room would not be available until later, 16.00, but said that she would call us when ready - this never happened! Room was comfortabe but a little raggy around the edges. We enjoyed... more

Stayed on the one night 'Love at 42' package which was one night in a superior room, breakfast, champers, chocs and rose petals and bath oil. Lovely hotel, great location although the immediate area and that around the Corn Exchange has seen better days. Staff very helpful though front of house staff seemed a bit clueless (Spanish and Oriental). Love... more

Booked this a few weeks in advance direct with the hotel group and definitely an extremely advantageous rate. The hotel is located in easy walking distance of the main centre, and during the week was peaceful and a very pleasant and handy location. As a break without kids, we decided to go for 2 days in a junior suite rather... more

I stayed at this hotel on business for one night for a second time a year after reviewing it. Sadly little seems to have been done in the meantime to sort out issues of dirty carpets, scuffed paint, cracked tiles in the bathroom etc. I said in my previous review that it must have been great when first opened but... more

This is a lovely hotel, but its impossible to sleep here because of the noise! Now that the awful metal bridge has been built to give revellers access from the new eating and drinking area across the river, even in a top floor hotel on the water side of the property, the ongoing noise is unbearable. Its an issue they... more

We stayed room only on a Saturaday night. 42 The Calls is an amazing building - a fantastic conversion retaining a lot of the original features. The room was confortable and the staff were very helpful and efficient. The only downside was there was quite a lot of noise from people heading back from their night out waling along the... more

I'm a great fan of TripAdvisor and it never ceases to amaze me how some people seem almost offended if other reviewers don't agree with their opinion - but that's what makes TA so good, it's all about opinions and it's why it works so well - one man's meat another man's poison sort of thing - anyway back to... more

We spent a couple of nights here for our 20th wedding anniversary. Situated in an old mill the hotel oozes character, we only wish we had made the effort to come years ago. The room was clean, funky and spacious but to be fair was due for a refurb. The Calls has been open for a good 10 years and... more

I was a little nervous having read a few reviews about the noise. And indeed, when I arrived, a loud group of youngsters made a lot of noise on the canal bank opposite - luckily the rain arrive and drove them away! To be fair, it's difficult to know what the hotel can do about this, but double-glazing would be... more

We have stayed at 42 The Calls several times but I'm afraid not again. In the past we were willing to overlook the noise issues (more on that later) due to the good service and location, but on this occasion the service was not up to scratch and other little niggles prevented us enjoying our time. First, the good things.... more
