We enjoyed our 3-night stay at the Alvear Palace. It reminded us of the St. Regis in NYC -- elegant, formal, historic, pricey, and very well run. The location is great for site-seeing. The only quibbles: somewhat dated fitness/spa facilities, and uneven service in first-floor courtyard dining room. During the same visit to South America, we also stayed at the... more

My husband and I spent two nights at the Alvear Palace last September. We had been in BA for a week prior to our stay, renting an apartment in Palermo. This was our splurge weekend. It was wonderful! The porters knew our names by the time they had unloaded our luggage from the cab (I think they read them off... more

Before travelling we were not 100% sure if the Alvear would be the right hotel for us. We are in our mid 30s and were debating whether the Faena would be a better fit. But we are glad we stayed here. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Service is fab, not sure how they do it, but they called... more

I just returned from a memorable 7 night stay at the Alevar. The beauty and elegance of the hotel and the refinment of the staff exceeded my expectations in every way. The Alvear's reputation as one of the "Leading Hotels of the World" was demonstrated in the beauty of the public areas as well as my lovely "suite de lujo".... more

My husband and I just got back from another amazing stay at The Alvear. (also stayed there for 2 weeks May '07). I was surprised to read some of the recent reviews concerning disappointing experiences with the hotel. We couldn't have been more pleased with the beauty of the hotel, its pristine condition, prime location in La Recoleta and the... more

This hotel has often been described as the best hotel in South America, and its rates reflect that image as a member of "The Leading Hotels of the World." However, our stay in May was very disappointing. Although the hotel is lovely and overall well maintained, and guests usually dress well (there is a dress code) the rooms are much... more

If you want to stay in a classic hotel, with exceptional service, and can afford the price, this is the hotel for you. The rooms are nicely furnished in an old fashioned style that evoked the era of Eva Peron. Butlers are at your service, and the high tea matches that anywhere in the world. The hotel has style and... more

We've just completed a seven night stay at the Alvear Palace Hotel, Buenos Aires. This hotel needs some realistic comments since everything we read before booking indicated that it was among the finest hotels in the world. It is so far removed from that, it's pathetic. While the staff are very nice, the hotel in total is more show than... more

We spent the first 5 nights of our trip through Argentina here. While staff were professional, there was not a single employee who was friendly. Everyone seemed very put out by questions or even our merely showing up although we were always well- attired and speak Spanish with local fluency. The hostess at the restaurant even once wagged her finger... more

We stayed at the Alvear Palace for 3 nights in February. The hotel had a driver meet us at the airport, and he gave us a quick orientation to the city as he drove to the hotel. We waited about 45 minutes for our room to be finished, but the desk had us taken to the bar and provided us... more
