My family was going to Sea World and after reading all the wonderful reviews of the Lamplighter, I thought I'd give them a try. Some reviews on TripAdvisor had rates under $90/night, but I could only find more expensive prices online. So I called the hotel directly. The lady who answered the phone offered me a lower rate--I was thrilled.... more

Stayed four nights for $80/night. Don't let the small lobby fool you. Great place for the price. Two story motel with exterior corridors. Not too fancy, but very nicely decorated, exceptionally clean, and very well maintained. The stairs and corridor were spotless, a door mat perfectly placed in front of every room, towels placed on lounge chairs by the pool... more

We chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and it's close proximity to Seaworld and San Diego Zoo.. We were very happy with every aspect of our stay. The front desk staff were polite and efficient, our room was spotlessly clean, and the breakfast selection was good. As "walk in" guests we were offered competiive rates, with a reduction for... more

The breakfast was wonderful, especially the waffles. The room was clean, the pool also. On the down side, on our extended stay in the suite we had hoped to make use of the kitchen and laundry facilities. The microwave oven made such a racket we were afraid to use it. The stove fan also clattered noisily, making it inoperable. Furthermore,... more

My parents have been Sno-Birds to San Diego for the last 21 years. This has been their favorite of all and for the last quite a few years! I have come and seen why for the past couple of winters. I cannot tell you how much it means to me... That my parents are staying at such an awesome place.... more

Felt a little nervous when we approached the El Cajon area but it was an unessary worry. The hotel was very well run, clean, well kept and the staff were so helpful with the odd problems we had. There are shops nearby and a few useful restaurants. Access to the Freeway is close and therefore useful. Highly recommended. more

We stayed for 2 nights here, our room was right over the breakfast room but we had no noise. Ths room is a little dated and the bed kind of hard and lumpy but not the worst I have had. The room was very clean. The best thing about this place is the breakfast, you get to make you own... more

This was a wonderful place to stay in SD. This was our first trip to SD and we will definitely stay at the Lamplighter again. It was very clean and the grounds were well kept. It was very quiet and within 15-20 minutes of all of the attractions. The continental breakfast was good. Always stocked well. Friendly staff. We got... more
