TAXI'S ARE CHEAP IN PUERTO VALLARTA!!

Do not rent a car unless you are going on some road trips out of town. Generally the standard fare is $3 if you are staying in town with the fare going up to $6 if you are staying at one of the northern hotel zone hotels. Cab drivers are very nice and the cars (usually Nissan Sentras) are clean. Puerto Vallarta is a great walking town with lots to see but cabs can be necessary when trying to make a reservation for dinner or getting across town quickly. The cabs are nothing like the $40 each way fares in Cabo. Seriously $3 is the average.

A lot of people recommend using the efficient bus system, but for a few bucks more you can take a cab.
